Ambulance Service from Mumbai to Telangana
Hyderabad sits about 710 km from Mumbai, and the medical relationship between the two cities has grown substantially. AIG Hospitals has become one of India's leading gastroenterology and liver transplant centres, Basavatarakam is a major oncology institute, and NIMS and Apollo cover the full super-speciality range. Patients now travel from Mumbai to Hyderabad as often as the reverse.
That is a genuine shift. This corridor used to be predominantly about Telangana patients coming to Mumbai; now a substantial share of bookings are Mumbai patients heading south for transplant, advanced GI work and specific oncology protocols that Hyderabad does particularly well.
Operationally the route's defining feature is its sparseness after Solapur. The road is fast and the driving is easy, but the gap between capable hospitals widens considerably, and the heat on the plateau is a real clinical consideration. We crew and provision this route more conservatively than its distance alone would suggest.

Why families book this route:
- Liver transplant and advanced gastroenterology referrals to AIG Hospitals
- Oncology transfers to and from Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital
- Telangana patients travelling to Mumbai for cardiac and neuro super-speciality care
- Repatriation of patients and the deceased to home districts across Telangana
How We Drive Mumbai to Telangana
Route taken
NH-48 to Pune, then NH-65 (Pune–Hyderabad Highway) via Solapur
After the Mumbai–Pune expressway leg, the ambulance joins NH-65 and runs south-east across the Deccan plateau through Solapur and the Zaheerabad border into Telangana. It is a four-lane highway that moves quickly, but service coverage is noticeably thinner than on NH-48 — long stretches with few towns, and fewer hospitals close to the road.

Terrain and conditions
Bhor Ghat at the start, then open plateau the whole way. The terrain is easy but the environment is not — this corridor runs hot and dry through much of the year, and the sparseness past Solapur means an unplanned stop has fewer options nearby. Both factors shape how we crew and provision the journey.
Crew, oxygen and rest planning
Two drivers in relay, a paramedic throughout, and a doctor for ICU transfers. Halts are planned at Pune and Solapur, the two points with reliable hospital backup, because the stretch between Solapur and Sangareddy is sparse. Oxygen is loaded generously for that reason. Cabin cooling is verified before departure given the heat on the plateau.

The right choice depends on the patient's condition and the distance, not on what costs the most. Here is how the three compare.
Road Ambulance
Up to roughly 600 km, and any distance for mortuary transfers
- Door to door — ward to ward, with no transfers in between
- Fastest to arrange; can leave within the hour
- Family can travel alongside the vehicle
- Full ICU capability including ventilator and infusion pumps
Trade-off: Beyond 12–14 hours the journey itself becomes a clinical burden for a fragile patient.
Train Ambulance
Stable patients on long routes where flying is not affordable
- Far gentler than road over very long distances
- Considerably cheaper than air for the same journey
- Suits stable patients who need supervision but not intensive care
- Road ambulances still handle both the first and last legs
Trade-off: Tied to train schedules and station access, so it is rarely the fastest option.
Air Ambulance
Critical patients, and generally anything beyond 800–1,000 km
- Hours instead of a day or more on the road
- Full flying ICU with critical-care crew on board
- The right answer for unstable and ventilator-dependent patients
- Ground ambulances connect both airports to the hospitals
Trade-off: Costs substantially more, needs clearances, and adds two extra patient transfers.
Our recommendation for Mumbai to Telangana
Road ambulance is well established on this corridor and thirteen to fourteen hours is within what a properly crewed ICU ambulance handles for a stable patient. For critical cases, Hyderabad's airport connectivity is excellent and air ambulance is worth serious consideration. Train ambulance works for stable patients given the strong Mumbai–Hyderabad rail link.
