Symptoms to Watch For
- Chest pain or discomfort (pressure, squeezing, fullness)
- Pain or discomfort in arms, back, neck, jaw, or stomach
- Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort
- Cold sweat, nausea, or lightheadedness
- Breaking out in a cold sweat
- Indigestion or heartburn-like sensation
Immediate Steps
- 1Call emergency services (AIVA) immediately
- 2Help the person sit down and rest
- 3Loosen tight clothing
- 4Ask if they take heart medication (like nitroglycerin)
- 5If unconscious and not breathing, begin CPR
What NOT to Do
- Don't ignore the symptoms or wait to see if they go away
- Don't drive yourself or the person to the hospital
- Don't eat or drink anything except prescribed medication
- Don't delay calling for emergency help
