Ambulance Service from Mumbai to Solapur
Solapur sits about 400 km from Mumbai in the dry south-east of Maharashtra, close to the Karnataka border. The journey is one of the longer intra-state runs AIVA operates, and its character changes completely once the ambulance passes Pune — from a busy, well-serviced expressway to open plateau highway where the next capable hospital may be an hour away.
The city serves a wide agricultural and textile catchment, and its hospitals handle referrals from across Solapur, Osmanabad and the border districts. Complex cases move on to Pune or Mumbai, which is where AIVA's bookings mostly originate. The Siddheshwar temple also brings pilgrim volume, particularly around the Gadda Yatra.
The practical planning issue on this route is sparseness, not difficulty. The road is good and the driving is fast, but oxygen top-up points, fuel and hospital fallback are all thinner past Pune. That is why we crew this route with a relay driver and load reserve generously rather than treating it as a slightly longer Kolhapur run.

Why families book this route:
- Referrals from Solapur and Osmanabad districts to Pune and Mumbai hospitals
- Patients returning home after extended treatment in Mumbai
- Pilgrim emergencies at the Siddheshwar temple and during the Gadda Yatra
- Cross-border transfers involving nearby Karnataka towns
How We Drive Mumbai to Solapur
Route taken
NH-48 to Pune, then NH-65 (Pune–Hyderabad Highway)
The route splits into two distinct halves. The Mumbai–Pune leg is expressway and quick. After Pune the ambulance joins NH-65 heading south-east across the Deccan plateau — a four-lane highway that runs long, straight and largely empty. It is fast driving, but services and hospitals thin out considerably compared with the NH-48 corridor, so halts need planning rather than improvising.

Terrain and conditions
Bhor Ghat is the only real climb. Beyond Pune the terrain is dry open plateau with long uninterrupted stretches. The heat is a genuine factor here — the Solapur belt runs considerably hotter than the coast, and ambulance climate control and patient hydration matter more on this route than on the coastal ones.
Crew, oxygen and rest planning
Two drivers in relay, a paramedic, and a doctor for ICU-level transfers. Two halts are planned, positioned at Pune and around Tembhurni where facilities exist, because the intervening stretches are sparse. Oxygen is loaded generously given both the journey length and the limited top-up options past Pune. Cabin cooling is checked before departure given the heat on the plateau.

- Whether a doctor is needed on board in addition to the paramedic
- Night departure, public holidays and same-hour emergency dispatch

Call +91 74001 94039 for a quoteRoad, Train or Air Ambulance?
The right choice depends on the patient's condition and the distance, not on what costs the most. Here is how the three compare.
Road Ambulance
Up to roughly 600 km, and any distance for mortuary transfers
- Door to door — ward to ward, with no transfers in between
- Fastest to arrange; can leave within the hour
- Family can travel alongside the vehicle
- Full ICU capability including ventilator and infusion pumps
Trade-off: Beyond 12–14 hours the journey itself becomes a clinical burden for a fragile patient.
Train Ambulance
Stable patients on long routes where flying is not affordable
- Far gentler than road over very long distances
- Considerably cheaper than air for the same journey
- Suits stable patients who need supervision but not intensive care
- Road ambulances still handle both the first and last legs
Trade-off: Tied to train schedules and station access, so it is rarely the fastest option.
Air Ambulance
Critical patients, and generally anything beyond 800–1,000 km
- Hours instead of a day or more on the road
- Full flying ICU with critical-care crew on board
- The right answer for unstable and ventilator-dependent patients
- Ground ambulances connect both airports to the hospitals
Trade-off: Costs substantially more, needs clearances, and adds two extra patient transfers.
Our recommendation for Mumbai to Solapur
Road ambulance is the practical choice. Solapur has an airport with very limited operations, so air transfer means a charter and a long wait — usually longer than simply driving. At eight to nine hours the journey is demanding but well within what a properly crewed ICU ambulance handles. For a genuinely critical patient we would discuss air options via Pune rather than Solapur directly.

Common Questions — Mumbai to Solapur
Eight to nine hours for about 400 km. The Mumbai–Pune leg is quick on the expressway; the Pune–Solapur leg on NH-65 is fast driving but long, and we build two planned halts into the schedule for patient care and driver relay.
